In 2014, the Republic of Ireland ranked 17th out of 174 in Transparency International's annual Corruption Perceptions Index, worse than the average for Western Europe, ranking 12th of the Western Europe and/or EU member states.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 title=Corruption Perceptions Index 2014 )〕 During the years before the Celtic Tiger (1995–2007), political corruption was at its worst with many politicians suspected of corruption, while financial corruption was at its peak during the Celtic Tiger years.
